WHAT TO EXPECT
AT YOUR
FIRST BODYWORK SESSION

Tell Me About Yourself!

During your phone consultation, we’ll talk about your goals for your session. Are you having pain? Restricted movements? Stress? Anxiety?

After scheduling your session, I'll email you an online form: COVID consent + waiver along with a general health history intake. All this information is important for planning your customized session.

What to Wear?

You will be clothed for the entire session. This is to ensure your modesty during movement-oriented techniques.

For Myofascial Release (MFR) focused table sessions, please wear athletic shorts during your session. For female-identifying clients, please also wear a wireless sports bra, or a loose tank top. If you prefer to wear more clothing during the session, you are welcome to.

For Thai Yoga Massage sessions on the floor, please wear clothing you can move in, such as an outfit for yoga or running. Long sleeves and leggings are totally fine.

Wear what you are comfortable in, and wear what you can move in.

COVID safety policy: We will both wear well-fitted masks covering our noses and mouths throughout your entire session.

During your session

Depending on the issues we’re planning to address, I may recommend starting your bodywork session with you laying on your back, sitting upright, or some other position. Supported side-lying positions might work best for some areas of concern, especially for pregnant women.

It’s helpful if you can take some deep full breaths and let your body sink into the table. Tune into your breath and the sensations in your body.

You're welcome to move as I work -- this is a great way to get more out of your session. For example, as I'm working on your shoulder or arm, you may want to slowly explore moving your head and neck for a nice stretch. If you'd prefer to simply relax, that's fine, too.

It’s really important for you to tell me immediately if any techniques I use cause pain. Pain is not okay. There may be a certain level of discomfort and "good ache” if we’re working on a problem area. It’s important that you tell me about that, too, so we can tailor your session to be most effective without causing injury.

I’ll check in with you as we go, but please speak up if you become too warm or too cool, if you are not comfortable, need another pillow, or if you'd prefer different music.

Will I get lotion in my hair or on my clothes?

I generally do not use lotion or oil on clients, so there will be no greasy or oily leftovers. The techniques I use are very slow and do not cause excessive friction to the skin.

After your session

You should expect to feel mellow and relaxed after your session. If we addressed pain issues, you may immediately feel a reduction in pain, or it may take a day or two before you feel that relief. If you are ever very sore following a bodywork session, (it’s rare, but it can happen) please call me so we can discuss the best course of action, and so that I can make notes to adjust your next session.

Paying for your session

Payment by credit card is required at least 24 hours in advance of your session. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice and no shows will be charged $40.

You can pay with credit card via Square, or by Zelle bank transfer. I do not accept insurance.

Looking forward to supporting you on your healing journey.
